Gaurav Banerjee

Gaurav Banerjee is a graduate student of early modern South Asian history and is interested in studying the social history of bodily desire and discipline in the construction of ‘the ideal man’ in Mughal north India. Engaging with Persian and Urdu ethical and legal documents, he attempts to probe into the forms of power and authority, instruments for the diffusion of knowledge, and the discourses it generated, within the Mughal elite and non-elite spaces. Apart from gender and sexuality, Gaurav is further interested in studying the intersection of health, religion, and community in early modern South Asia. Prior to joining UC Berkeley, Gaurav received his MA in History from the University of Delhi (2022) and BA (Honors) in History from Hansraj College, University of Delhi (2020).
