Educational history:

Research interests:
Interdisciplinary approach is a key element of my pedagogy and research method. Whenever applicable, I always encourage my students to explore various resources, including literature, history, cinematography, music and arts in language learning. I myself am an avid collector of Vietnamese art and antiques and am deeply involved in studying the material culture of Southeast Asia in general, and of Vietnam in particular. I am especially interested in Vietnamese ceramics of the 15th century. I endeavor to incorporate my expertise on material culture into my language and content courses. My ongoing projects include the translation of literature into and from Vietnamese and the development of new teaching materials, including the “Essential Vietnamese Phrasebook” and a new textbook for Introductory- and Intermediate-level Vietnamese.
