The course  presents a survey of the major myths, divinities, doctrines and themes of the  seminal religious literature of Hindu India from the Vedas through the great Sanskrit Epics and the major Puranas. Special emphasis is given to understanding the central figures, myths and doctrines of Vaishnava, Shaiva, Shakta and Tantric systems. The format is lecture and discussion and students are responsible for a midterm exam, a final exam and a research based term paper.
