FILIPINO - Advanced
Prerequisites. Two years of Filipino/Tagalog or consent of instructor.
Using literary texts and essays on Philippine culture and society, students learn advanced vocabulary and complex grammatical structures. Students then choose one of three tracks: creative track; research track, or translation track. For the first option, the student should write three short stories, ten poems, or creative nonfiction. For the second track, the student should submit essays based on the texts and their research. For the third option, the student should translate fifteen poems, five stories or two essays and write about their translation process. These works shall be discussed using a workshop format, enabling the students to revise the work until it can be deemed ready for publication.
